1910 E104-II Nadja Honus Wagner SGC 60 EX 5 - Pop Two, None Higher! This is one of a pair at this grade level which is the highest quality plateau known for this scarce caramel/candy entry! The second of the trio of "E104" Nadja Caramels promotions showcases the immensely talented World's Champions Pittsburgh Pirates. Of course, the key entry is baseball's premier shortstop, the "Flying Dutchmen" himself--Honus Wagner. The portrait is immediately recognized as the work of renown sports photographer Carl Horner. This very same portrait is the inspiration for the hobby's "Holy Grail," appearing in the T206 and E90-2 editions. The offered example resonates with an intense quality rarely seen in cards of this era. A "Type 2" of this visual appeal is the exception to the rule as only 15% of the entire E104-2 population is excellent or better with not a single copy grading over SGC 80. The corners show modest amounts of wear at tips while encompassing four bright white borders, the graphics sitting just to the left of the 1-1/2" center line. The obvious lines running across the blue backdrop at first appear to be surfaces scrapes but note the black key line is completely unaffected as is Wagner's portrait confirming this element is an application of ink and not a physical imperfection. This card is as highly prized and pursued as a viable replacement for its T206 cousin at a fraction of the price and yet is noticeably harder to acquire. As with all three E104 varieties, this card is a blank, a very clean blank back we should note, as opposed to the Nadja as reverse. A very striking card.
