1910-11 M116 Sporting Life Mid To High Grade Near Set (191/287). A fresh to the hobby collection being presented for the first time! The M116 Sporting Life series was one of the more comprehensive card promotions of the era yet are found in far fewer numbers a century later. The tobacco and candy industries saw great success with colorful and flashy insert cards, but in an effort to appeal to the sports fan who read about sports as well, Sporting Life took the less-is-more approach and produced cards with a subdued pastel palette and the formal head-and-shoulder portrait work of Carl Horner. Issued over a span of two years as 24 different sets of 12 cards, complete sets are rarely found. This presentation comes to Heritage after being passed down through a family since 1910. Overall, the cards are in much nicer condition then usually encountered. The 24 blue background variations are found elsewhere in this auction.
