1910-11 M116 Sporting Life Baseball Near Master Set (275/326). John Esch collection. In an era that largely meant getting your hands on baseball cards meant buying cigarettes or begging someone walking out of a tobacco store, the 1910-11 M116 Sporting Life series was a saving grace that also encouraged reading skills. Issued in distinct series, over the course of two seasons, the Sporting Life issued a total of 326 cards which included all background, back color and team change variations. A century later, M116 fans are all too aware that not every series is found in the same quantity. There are dozens and dozens of players that are encountered less often and this presentation includes almost all of them. This is just a sampling of the scarcities that make completing an M116 set that much more difficult: Abbaticchio, Austin, Barger, Beebe, Birmingham, Blackburn, Campbell, Cicotte, N. Clarke, Coveleskie, Criger, Donovan, Duffy (HOF), Ewing, Flick (HOF), Frill, Fromme, Gaspar, Graham, Hoblitzel, Hooper (HOF), Howell, Hughes, Hunter, Jacklitsch, Kroh, Kruger, McAleer, McBride, McElveen, Deacon McGuire , McIntire, McMillan, F. Mitchell, Niles, O'Hara, Payne, Pfeffer, Raymond, Richie, Rowan, Schmidt, Schweitzer, Shean, Sparks, Stovall, Suggs, Tannehill, Titus, Unglaub, Wilhelm, Willis (HoF), I. Young. See our online images for printing errors of Arrelanes Stallings, Criger and Bradley.
