1909 E95 Philadelphia Caramel Ty Cobb PSA NM 7 - None Higher. It has been said that love makes the world go 'round. With all due respect to the romantic, it is the baser emotion passion that affords the intensity to achieve. Lou Gehrig had an unwillingness to rest after concussions which may have been his undoing. Mickey Mantle lived every day like his last, making his last day come too quickly. Ty Cobb brought the same gritted teeth fervor to breaking every record in the books that he did when breaking the jaws of those who disrespected him. "In legend," Cobb wrote, shortly before his passing in 1961, "I am a sadistic, slashing, swashbuckling despot who waged war in the guise of sport." The truth, of course, is somewhat more complex than that, but this greatest figure of the Dead Ball Era was unquestionably the most determined ballplayer of his time (and perhaps of all time). The Georgia Peach is honored, many times more than once, in almost every trading card issue of the Dead Ball Era. His inner drive, steely grin and determination that Cobb is known for is captured perfectly on his E95 entry which is why it is one of his most passionately pursued cards.

Offered is one of the finest examples of this most ideal card of "The Georgia Peach" who could not look any more menacing. While there are over 2,000 graded T206 cards of Cobb of various tobacco brands, there have yet to be 125 of his second most "common" caramel appearance. Aged before his years, Cobb looks more like a chiseled veteran as opposed to a multi-talented youngster just a few seasons into his mythical career and on the cusp of his most productive years. Graded PSA NM 7, this is one of four examples in NM recorded by PSA, there are none higher. Considering there are only ten (total) E95 cards reviewed higher the chance of a finer example rests comfortably between slim and none. No lengthy condition report is necessary as the final assessment is a reflection of some modest corner tip wear. His portrait is vibrant and problem-free; the surrounding frame wonderfully contrasts the fresh hues of this 106-year old gem.
