    Description

1909-1911 T206 Sweet Caporal Ty Cobb (Bat Off Shoulder) PSA NM 7. In 1910, the date of this card's debut, Tyrus Raymond Cobb was about to embark on one of the greatest 10-year spans of any player who ever played the game. His league-leading numbers that season are staggering: .383 average, 194 hits, 35 doubles, 13 triples, 91 RBIs and 65 stolen bases simply set the stage for the Detroit faithful! Despite his vicious temperament that likely kept him out of the running other seasons, the American League had no choice but to crown him Most Valuable Player in 1911, the only season he was honored as such. Look closely at the image of the Peach, painted close to a century ago, and you can see it in his eyes. Though he stands before a serene background of soft pastel, the stare is one of great determination. It's one of the finest portraits in the long and impressive history of baseball card art. Glowing white borders flow around the timeless "Bat Off Shoulder" illustration that still yields a high level of color quality and freshness. The printing process is marked only by a stray spot of printer's ink dotting Ty's right eye. The corners yield to only slight touches of wear. The reverse displays some mild ghosting. The reverse displays a "Sweet Caporal - 350 Subjects" with a Factory 30 designation. Graded PSA NM 7. Of the well over 800 PSA submissions, this card ranks among the top 5.6% finest on record.
