1909-11 T206 White Border Baseball Near Set (452). There is some intangible "something" about this series that keeps its appeal. To hold a quantity in your hands is like taking a step back in time. The set was so revered they were kept in quantity to be passed down and appreciated by generations to come. This et was once housed inside a vintage keepsake album. The storage kept the the inks lustrous and for most completely crease and wrinkle free. Removal has resulted in each card showing some level of back damage. This can be from just a small spot up to about the size of a nickel with some slightly wider. Without this anomaly, this is one very nice looking presentation of this classic series. The cards are bright, colors have lost little luster and many have corner quality at the excellent grade level. A T206 set in true EX condition would be an investment into the tens of thousands of dollars and countless hours of searching. This is great opportunity to acquire a near set in mostly VG/EX to EX condition at a more reasonable price. For presentation purposes, we have graded some of the most popular Hall of Famers. Includes: Graded - SGC 20 FR 1.5: 9 cards, w/ Cobb/Red Portrait, Cobb/Bat On, Cobb/Bat Off, Evers/With Bat-Chicago, Johnson/Pitching, Lajoie/Portrait, Tinker/Bat Off, Young/Bare Hand and Young/Glove; SGC 10 PR 1: 11 cards, w/ Bender/Portrait, Chance/Red, Elberfeld/Portrait/Wash., Jennings/Portrait,Johnson/Portrait, Lajoie/Batting, Mathewson/Portrait, Mathewson/White Cap, Speaker, G. Brown/Washington, and Cy Young/Portrait. Ungraded - including Baker, Beckley, Bender/No Trees, Bender/With Trees, Bresnahan/Portrait, Bresnahan/Batting, Brown/Chicago, Brown/ Portrait, Chance/Batting, Chance/Yellow, Chesbro, Clarke/Batting, Clarke/Portrait, Collins/Philadelphia, Collins/Minn., Crawford/Throwing, Crawford/Batting "Old Mill," G. Davis, Duffy, Evers/Portrait, Evers/Cubs, Flick, Griffith/Batting, Griffith/Portrait, Huggins/Hands (trimmed), Huggins/Portrait, Jennings/One Hand "Old Mill", Jennings/Both Hands "Old Mill", Joss/Pitching, Joss/Portrait, Keeler/Portrait, Keeler/Batting, Kelley, Lajoie/Throwing, Marquard/Hands At Sides, Marquard/Pitching, Marquard/Portrait, Mathewson/Dark Cap, McGinnity, McGraw/Finger In Air (miscut), McGraw/Glove at Hip, McGraw/Portrait-Without Cap, McGraw/Portrait-With Cap, Tinker/Bat On, Tinker/Knees, Tinker/Portrait, Waddell/Portrait, Waddell/Throwing, Wallace, Walsh, Wheat, Willis/Pittsburgh, Willis/Batting, Willis/Throwing. With a few Old Mill, Polar Bear or Sweet Caporal exceptions, all backs are Piedmont. Missing scarce variations like Demmitt/STL, Doyle/NY Natl., O'Hara/STL, Magie, Plank, Wagner, all southern leaguers (These are being offered elsewhere in this auction) plus others for completion. Without back damage, this set would grade VG to EX with about 10% lesser (some trimmed/hand cut).
