Description

1909-11 T206 Sweet Caporal 350 Ty Cobb (Bat Off Shoulder) PSA EX-MT 6 - Factory 42 Overprint. In 1910, the date of this card's debut, Tyrus Raymond Cobb was about to embark on one of the greatest 10-year spans of any player who ever played the game. His league-leading numbers that season are staggering: .383 average, 194 hits, 35 doubles, 13 triples, 91 RBIs and 65 stolen bases simply set the stage for the Detroit faithful! Despite his vicious temperament that likely kept him out of the running other seasons, the American League had no choice but to crown him Most Valuable Player in 1911, the only season he was honored as such. Look closely at the image of the Peach, painted close to a century ago, and you can see it in his eyes. It's one of the finest portraits in the long and impressive history of baseball card art and this is one of the finest examples that displays a "Sweet Caporal - 350 Subjects" with a scarce Factory 42 overprint designation. The glowing white borders that surround the "Bat Off Shoulder" illustration yields a high level of color quality and freshness. The corners yield to only slight touches of wear. Graded PSA EX-MT 6. There are nine confirmed entries on the PSA census with this scarce overprint. It is the lone example in EX-MT with two higher.
