1909-11 T206 Rube Waddell, Portrait PSA NM-MT+ 8.5 - Pop One, Two Higher! Quality so unexpectedly strong that it's startling. Charles Edward "Rube" Waddell was perhaps the flakiest and most undependable major league star of all time, known to show up drunk for games regularly. His legendary manager Connie Mack once remarked, "The Rube has a two million dollar body and a two cent head." Matching boundless talent with erratic behavior born of mental illness and alcohol abuse, the hurler was both a manager's dream and nightmare. Despite his frailties, Waddell was inducted into Cooperstown in 1946. His two T206 appearance in the T206 edition are among his most popular card collectibles and a true condition rarity. Of the now more than 156,000 submissions to date of this fabled tobacco set, fewer than 325 have achieved the ranking of NM-MT+ or higher.

Graded PSA NM-MT+ 8.5, the portrait of the Hall of Fame pitcher is so clear and crisp that it borders on photographic. The borders and reverse are ghostly white, and the corners are deadly sharp. The Piedmont - Series 150 reverse is crisp and clean. For Rube Waddell's "Portrait" - there is a total population that currently stands at 461 submissions. This is the only card to earn a NM-MT+ assessment. Of the only two graded higher, one is a confirmed Sweet Cap, the other an unknown meaning this could possibly be the highest graded Piedmont on record.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
