1909-11 T206 Piedmont Ty Cobb (Bat On Shoulder) SGC 88 NM/MT 8. While the issue was not the earliest to celebrate our National Pastime, the American Tobacco Trust assembly that has come to be cataloged as the "T206" is widely recognized as the first great baseball set. And though short-printed rarities like Honus Wagner and Eddie Plank continue to reign in monetary rankings, the four entries celebrating the Georgia Peach continue to hold dominance among those cards enjoying a full production run.

Presented is a particularly fitting "Bat on Shoulder" tribute to the man who was quoted as saying, "I've got to be first all the time, in everything." Graded SGC 88 NM/MT 8. Factoring all of the more than 2,400 T206 Ty Cobb card currently recorded on the SGC census, this is one of seven from tobacco's most popular issue rating this high with just two superior examples. As the lofty assessment would suggest, there is very little to discuss in terms of physical shortcomings, which appear to be limited to the very lightest of corner touches. Image color and registration are essentially beyond compare, and the centering within the borders is likewise bordering on perfection.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
