    Description

Only a single superior representation on PSA population report

1909-11 T206 Piedmont Tris Speaker PSA NM-MT 8. It was a legendary career that almost never happened, as Speaker's left arm was so badly damaged in a college football injury that doctors initially suggested amputation. But Speaker recovered to become one of the greatest hitters the game has ever known, maintaining to this day the career record for doubles, and top ten positions in average, hits and triples. He was properly honored as a member of the Hall of Fame's inaugural induction class, and remains one of the most sought-after figures in pre-war baseball collecting.

As such, we expect considerable interest in the offered relic, an entry from the hobby's most celebrated tobacco issue bested only a single time in PSA history. The Grey Eagle was just a rookie when the T206 set debuted, and wears the uniform of the Boston Red Sox here against an impossibly blue background of sky. Surfaces are remarkably clean and corners sharp, and we suspect that it is only the westward shift of the image area that obstructed an even higher altitude within the PSA population. With only one superior example known, it's a safe bet that you'll never have a chance to own a better Speaker than this.
