1909-11 T206 Piedmont Johnny Evers, Portrait SGC 88 NM/MT 8. Few vintage cards are capable of enlivening a collection in the manner brought about by the introduction of a top-quality T206. If the card happens to feature Johnny Evers as its subject, the effect is even more pronounced. Of the trio of poses devoted to Evers, his "Portrait" with the distinct Green Background - seen here - is by far his most striking depiction! Evers' penetrating gaze on this marvelously well-conceived insert commands special reverence as it challenges in authority the stern glare of the Georgia Peach himself. It is a hundred-year-old classic that boasts enduring appeal, and is offered in a state of preservation that will doubtless inspire fascination for yet another century. Among the hundreds of copies of this depiction validated by both SGC and PSA, there are none at the Mint level and just one SGC 92 but no detail regarding what pose it is. The SGC report shows only two at the NM/MT level with the only higher. On the face of this abundantly praiseworthy specimen, Evers's visage projects with almost startling clarity, and the brightness of his memorable surrounding has remained completely unblemished by time. Unforgiving examination intended to expose mostly non-existent faults reveals the centering of the graphics slightly low of perfection, a whisper of wear at the bottom-right corner (the bottom left corner is Gem MT quality) and faint toning along the left perimeter on the reverse. The card's "Piedmont - 150 Subjects" reverse-side design is boldly inked. A fantastic example of a prime T206 entry.
