1909-11 E90-1 American Caramel Ty Cobb PSA NM-MT 8 - Pop Two, None Higher. The most sought-after entry from an entire library of promotions sponsored by candy and caramel makers is this visually engaging memento of Ty Cobb. It ranks as an undisputed highlight among the hobby's most prized pieces. As sweet as the sugary teat they once accompanied, the E90-1 American Caramel editions has few peers in the industry in terms of prominence and nostalgic allure. Considering the significance E90-1 cards have to a whole class of cards, the total number graded by PSA represents a mere 2% compared to total T206 submissions. The series' personality is endearing, its artful employment of color makes the viewer wish that the cards had been much more widely saved for posterity way back when. Only a substantial rewriting of history, though, could alter the facts: compared to their tobacco counterparts, relatively little caramel cards survived the pockets and sticky fingers and a tiny fraction of those that did endure picture the legendary Cobb. As far as condition goes, that's another matter altogether, as virtually all E90-1's were well-circulated, a path starting at the factory, to the grocer's shelf, to the shopping bag, and at last young exuberant hands. But not this one.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. A truly incredible, barely touched exemplar, the E90-1 Cobb presented here boasts "1 of 2" status at its tier with none higher. Over 3,800 Type 1 American Caramels have been reviewed by PSA, only 16 submissions, a pittance by all regards (just under one-half of one-percent), have earned a NM-MT or better rating. There are simply none finer, and the set's PSA census strongly suggest a finer example does not exist. The piece's delicate cardstock betrays no evidence of jostling, moisture or careless treatment while riding with its package's original cargo and, clearly, it has experienced no mishaps since. The obverse discloses a beautiful player image with all hues brightly expressed and well-defined. Centering has been accomplished with precision between snow-white borders that surround a glorious batting portrait. The back is likewise uncommonly fresh. A close to one-of-a-kind Cobb collectible from an impossibly challenging release!
