1908-09 Rose Co. Addie Joss SGC 80 EX/NM 6 - The Highest Graded Example! It has been said the tides of fortune can turn quickly. In 1908, Addie Joss was coming off a 27-11 season (1.86 ERA) and was on his way to a 24-11 finish in '08 with a 1.18 ERA which was highlighted by a prefect game on October 2, 1908. When he was just 31-years old, and less than three years after that perfect game, Adrian Joss had contracted meningitis and passed way on April 14th, 1911, just two days into the 1911 season. Our offered card marks his appearance in one of the premier post card issues of the era - the Rose Company post card series in 1908 and 1909. He is a rarity among the rare as the census reports will strongly suggest. If one considers slight corner wear a "fault" then yes, this card has a fault. His central portrait is free of blemish and wear. The embossing is deep and well-defined. Graded SGC 80 EX/NM 6. Pop one graded EX/NM and the highest-graded SGC example of which there are only two noted on their census. The only PSA-graded example is an "Authentic."

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
