    Description

1903 E107 Breisch-Williams Eddie Plank SGC 10 Poor 1. The E107 series was the only comprehensive set of baseball cards to appear between the N300 Mayos of 1895 and the dawn of the golden age of 20th Century cards which began in earnest in 1909. Because of when they appeared, the E107 set includes stars of both the 19th and 20th Century periods. The offered card is of Hall of Fame pitcher Eddie Plank of the Philadelphia Athletics. Plank was a durable lefty who made his debut in 1901. Upon retirement, Eddie would be the first lefty in baseball history to win 200, then 300 games. His 326 victories ranks him third on the all-time list for left-handed pitchers. The in-uniform but very formal portrait is the work of Carl Horner. This iconic image would be the basis for "Gettysburg" Eddie's renowned T206 card and his E95 Phil. Caramel card. This example is one of only eight graded by SGC. Soiling, creases and corner wear earn it a SGC 10 PR 1 grade and one can easily read "One of a hundred and fifty prominent Baseball players" on the reverse. Condition aside, this is a key subject one of the most historically significant productions in the hobby.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
