1902-11 W600 Sporting Life Cabinet Ty Cobb PSA Authentic. In the last 125 years, there have been a few select productions that have set themselves apart from the majority and have ascended to a place of honor as the most desired collectible of any era. Issued over a span of years from 1902 to 1911 the W600 Sporting Life cabinet card premiums are treasured additions to one's collection regardless of the condition. Naturally, the titans of the time are among the W600 roster like Cy Young, Christy Mathewson and Honus Wagner. The Georgia Peach, always a key name in any promotion, affords the most awe and wonder. A close to impossible card but easily one in the most demand. It is believed that fewer than ten total Cobb W600 premiums still exist, to date PSA has graded only three, SGC has managed to grade one single example. The premiums were made available to subscribers of the Sporting Life newspaper. The photographer of credit is the renowned Carl Horner. The portrait of the young yet already hardened Cobb is haunting and mesmerizing. His glare sends chills down your spine yet his gaze leaves you wanting to understand the inner drive and demons. When issued in 1907, the card measured 5-1/4" x 7-1/2." This card was innocently hand cropped, apparently to allow for scrapbook storage or framed display, to the current size of 6-1/2" tall and an as issued 5-1/4" width. The front presents wonderfully, a minor surface chip and some mild surface wear have failed to affect the central image of the greatest hitter baseball has ever known. There are no creases or wrinkles. The reverse shows a band of brown paper tape and very little other wear. Although the ideal height size is not attainable, this is one of the premier Ty Cobb collectibles and with so very few examples becoming available it is a rookie year card that anyone should treasure adding to their vintage collection.
