1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Mike Kelly PSA NM-MT+ 8.5 - Pop One, One Higher! Exceptional in quality and appeal, this 127-year old artifact presents an opportunity for the advanced collector not seen very often. Those studied in nineteenth century collecting are all too familiar with the N28 "World's Champions" series produced by Allen & Ginter's in 1888. The set is a major part of any 19th Century collection and often acts as a starting point for those "passionate" to pursue the realm of 1880's baseball cards. This is the second finest example of the modest total population of 134 N28 cards featuring baseball legend King "$10,000" Kelly. He was more than a ball player, he was a celebrity, an ambassador of the game who inspired the song - "Slide, Kelly, Slide." On the field, his contributions for the Chicago White Stockings resulted in five pennants over a seven year span. When Chicago sold Kelly to Boston in 1887, for the then unheard of sum of $10,000 - referring to him as "$10,000 Kelly" became the norm instead of the exception.

Graded PSA NM-MT+ 8.5, this is the only card graded NM-MT+, somehow there one graded higher. In his Boston Beaneaters uniform, Kelly's mustached bravado is evident thanks to the lithographers craft. The front seems determined to have stayed at a high, uninterrupted level if quality. Some mild toning and a spot stain or two aside, the back remains devoid of damage so typically seen on cards of this era. We should note that only eight of the over 3,600 N28 cards submitted to PSA have graded as high or higher. If you would like to add one of the finest Allen & Ginter's cards of a key 19th Century Hall of Famer to your collection - now is the time. This is that kind of card that becomes available only very rarely.
