Description

1888 N28 Allen & Ginter John M. Ward PSA Mint 9 - Pop Two, None Higher! The influence of John Ward on baseball is undeniable. Ward excelled at both shortstop and pitcher during his 17-season Major League career. It was Ward who set a precedent that Babe Ruth would later follow by starting out as a Hall of Fame caliber pitcher and later converting to a position allowing for daily play. Ward led the National League circuit with 47 wins with Providence Grays in 1879 and in 1887 led the league in stolen bases as a member of the New York Giants. The second perfect game in the history of professional baseball in 1880 with ward on the mound. Off the field, his tremendous influence was felt as he organized the Players' Brotherhood, the first baseball players union, and formed the short-lived Players League in 1890. The offered card has barely a fault with the only condition factor of note is the rough cut common to cards with such thick stock. Centering appears perfect, the waist high portrait of Ward is problem-free. Any obverse imperfection is the shadow of a faint scratch on the PSA holder. Graded PSA MINT 9, there are two graded MINT, there are none higher. After 3,600 submission, not a single N28 has earned the Gem MT rating.
