1888 N28 Allen & Ginter Charles Comiskey PSA NM-MT 8 - None Higher! A key member of the 1885 AA pennant winners and 1886 World Champion St. Louis Browns is HoFer Charles Comiskey. When issued, no one would have an inkling that he would command one of the best AL teams ever assembled and make history as owner in a scandal that still shakes the baseball world. Baseball historians have argued for years whether the man who signed the front or the man who endorsed the back of this check was most to blame for the greatest scandal in baseball history. While it was undeniably Cicotte who beaned the first Cincinnati Reds batter he faced in Game One to signal the fix was on, the parsimonious Comiskey is widely faulted for inspiring the betrayal with his issuance of salaries well below the League norm, particularly for a team of Championship caliber. There's no question but that the Eight Men Out believed a partnership with crooked gamblers was the only means of improving their financial lot. When Allen and Ginter chose subjects for their promotion titled "World's Champions" baseball star Charles Comiskey was a wise choice. This example boasts a pair of very mildly touched outer corner tips, a vintage rough cut along the right edge and clean blemish-free surfaces. The best part is the sharp, well-registered portrait that resonates off the surface. Graded PSA NM-MT 8, this is one of three graded NM-MT, there are none higher.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
