1888 N162 Goodwin Champions Brouthers PSA NM-MT 8 - Pop Two, None Higher. Known as "Big Dan," Brouthers' 6'2", 207 lb. size was striking for his time. He put his size to good use as a power hitter who crashed 107 lifetime home runs, and from the years 1887 through 1889 he held the Major League career home run record. The first baseman made his big league debut with Troy in 1879. Brouthers played for ten teams in 19 seasons, the longest at Buffalo, for five seasons. But Brouthers wasn't just a long-ball threat. He also hit for high averages. His lifetime mark of .342 even now ranks ninth all-time. He led the National League in home runs twice, in hits three times, in batting average four times, and in slugging six times. He also led the American Association one time in both batting average and slugging. Brouthers was the Vice President of the first American athlete union, the Brotherhood of Professional Base Ball Players, and played a season in the Brotherhood inspired Players' League. His last full season was 1896, when he hit .344 for Philadelphia.

The 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions set was beautifully designed, with full color artistic renderings of athletes set against a brilliant sky background, and it included only eight baseball players. When the dead ball and large parks made home runs rare, Brouthers was the game's first slugger. Presented here is an opening to add Dan Brouthers to your line-up. The color pallet is magnetic. The surrounding border is a bright white. Graded PSA NM-MT 8. One of only two cards graded NM-MT by PSA with none rated higher.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
