    Description

1948 Satchel Paige Handwritten J.D. Postcard to Son with World Series Content. Extraordinary photo postcard (3.5x5.5") by famed shutterbug J.D. McCarthy portrays Hall of Fame hurler Leroy "Satchel" Paige as he appeared during his rookie season of 1948 with the Cleveland Indians. The back contains a lengthy text to his son that Paige penned during the 1948 World Series when his Indians defeated Lou Boudreau's Boston Braved in six games.

    Dated "Oct 10-48," Satch writes:

"Hello Dale...I saw yesterday's and today's World Series games. C won Sat. 2 to 1 but lost today 11 to 5, so they have to go back to Boston. Do you hear the games broadcasted?...Have you started to school yet?...Love Dad."

Postcard and content in black ink are NRMT. Please be advised that the PSA Letter of Authenticity that accompanies this lot references "signature(s)" though it is our understanding that this is standard language and the LOA applies to the handwriting as no signature is present. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (handwriting).
