UPDATE: Please note that this photograph was in fact signed to "Henry Johnson," a member of the New York Yankees pitching staff from 1925 to 1932. Ruth signed one of these photographs for each member of the 1931 team. The fantastic provenance and large size of the photograph make this piece particularly scarce and valuable.

1931 Babe Ruth Signed Burke Photograph. This amazing image derives from the studio of George Burke, whose soulful portraits of Depression-era baseball have cemented his legacy as the premier photographer of our National Game. The reason for his popularity is certainly made clear with this study of baseball's greatest star, who poses in his road grey flannels in the later years of his career. A very fine collectible on its own, this vintage print is rendered practically priceless with the addition of Ruth's strong 8/10 fountain pen inscription, reading "To My Pal Hewy Johnson From Babe Ruth, Sept. 1st, 1931," a date that saw the Yanks win both ends of a Red Sox doubleheader in the Bronx. The sepia image measures a grand 7x10", with the period mount extending the dimensions to 10.75x14". An isolated freckle or two of foxing at the right border remains the only issue of condition, as the piece is otherwise free of flaws. Vintage baseball photograph collectors will find few pieces that could compare to this superb offering. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
