Circa 1955 Roy Campanella Signed Photograph. A devastating automobile accident on an icy road in January of 1958 brought an end to one of the most noteworthy careers in Brooklyn Dodgers history, leaving the ballclub's sturdy backstop confined to a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. Though he would eventually regain limited use of his arms, Campy was only able to sign autographs after the accident with very limited skill, leaving his scarce pre-1958 examples highly prized by collectors. A fine example is offered here, applied to a 7x9" photo of Campy with Hall of Fame sportswriter Jack Lang, to whom the photo is inscribed. A light brush of Campy's hand to the wet ink of his signature has caused three letters of his surname to feather ever so slightly, but the effect is so minimal as to barely merit a mention. Otherwise the inscription and autograph are 10/10, and the photo is likewise free of any notable condition issues. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
