Circa 1937 Joe DiMaggio Signed Type 1 Photograph. The year was 1936 and Babe Ruth was out of baseball. Lou Gehrig was soon to retire, and the New York Yankees were looking for their next superstar. They would not have to wait long, as rookie Joe DiMaggio came on the scene like a thunderstorm, batting .323 with twenty-nine home runs and 125 RBI. Incredibly, he improved on those numbers the following seasons, losing three years to military service.

From early in his career, this type 1 original photograph dates from 1936 to 1937, based upon a similar companion piece of Tony Lazzeri (1937 was his final year with the Yankees). The crisp image on this 8x10" photo has been signed with a lengthy inscription, and features a stunning 10/10 signature. Photo shows minor corner wear and one very tiny edge chip, but is in otherwise excellent condition. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
