1946 Montreal Royals Team Signed Photograph with Jackie Robinson. While 1947 is commonly recognized as the year that Jackie Robinson made his historic step across baseball's color line, that's actually not technically accurate. The future Hall of Famer's assignment to the Dodgers' AAA farm club Montreal Royals of the International League serves as the true milestone, and Robinson's 1946 spring training with the club supplied his first taste of the hardships to come. Robinson was denied entry to hotels and even ballparks in the Deep South, the Jacksonville, Florida stadium padlocked shut without warning on game day to protect the institutionalized bigotry that poisoned the first eight decades of the professional game. This artifact represents the most significant turning point in the history of modern sport, the fulcrum upon which our National Pastime began its pivot toward the light. Jackie's signature is 5/10 at far right of this 8x10" team image signed by seventeen including future or former Big Leaguers Spider Jorgensen, Herman Franks, Lew Riggs, Tommy Tatum and more. All sign in black fountain pen ink averaging 6/10 in strength. Photo itself exhibits a few bends and a heavier crease well below the central image, but nothing distracts measurably from the strong visual appeal. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
