1927-33 Mickey Cochrane Philadelphia Athletics Vintage Photograph.
A likeable personality off the field, combined with his competitive nature on the field made Mickey Cochrane a fan favorite in the midst of the Great Depression. Lovell and Mutt Mantle of Oklahoma thought so highly of Mick they named their son after him, and the rest is history. Playing in a era that was dominated by Ruth, Gehrig, and the Yankees, Cochrane's Athletics and Tigers managed to win five pennants and three World Series titles over the course of his 13-year career. After a trade that brought him from Philly to Detroit he became a player-manager and brought Detroit its first ring in his second year on the job, but the pressure to perform on the field and in the dugout took a toll and his career ended at 34 in 1937. In 1947 he became the first catcher elected to the Hall of Fame by the BBWAA (Bresnahan and Ewing had previously been elected by the Veterans Committee). Though many names will come to fans' minds before Cochrane in terms of who the greatest catcher of all-time, but none have matched his career .320 batting average to this point.

Offered is a 5x7" vintage photograph depicting the Hall of Famer Cochrane posing with a bat for the cameras. "Black Mike" has signed in black ink, running at an angle up his leg, towards the upper right corner. While both sides of the piece show heavy staining and wear, including a missing corner, it is not often you come by signed photographs of Cochrane, as he died in June of 1962. Reverse features American League Service Bureau stamping, a "CH 73602" stamp, and "Gordon Cochrane C" written in pencil. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
