    Description

Early 1970's Roberto Clemente Signed Forbes Field Brick. We must admit we were a bit skeptical when we were first contacted by a consignor claiming to have a brick from Forbes Field signed by the legendary Pirates outfielder, but seeing is believing. One smart photographer had the good sense to record the moment for posterity, and we can see the impeccably dressed future Hall of Famer applying his signature to the unusual medium. The autograph on the brick's edge is easily spotted but certainly not bold, and we believe that another exists on the wider side of the brick, matching the placement in the autograph, that is now little more than a hazy shadow. One suspects that the much more textured wide side of the brick was quickly determined to be incompatible with signing, leading Clemente to turn to the much smoother edge to pen the autograph we can see today. The brick was acquired by our consignor shortly after the wrecking balls put an end to Barney Dreyfuss' baseball palace following the 1970 Pirates season. While there are no markings on the brick to attest to Forbes Field derivation, the presence of Clemente's autograph upon it would make little sense for a brick of any other structure. It's certainly the most unique Clemente signed relic we've ever handled, sure to be a major conversation piece in your collection. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
