    Description

1952 Roy Campanella Signed Book. The most beloved figures in the history of baseball--Gehrig, Clemente, Munson--are often the most tragic, and the Hall of Fame catcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers figures prominently into this sad brotherhood. Though Campy bravely accepted his fate of paralysis following his early 1958 automobile accident, his brilliant career was ended in an instant, as was his ability to render a neat, flowing signature. Here we present one of the finest pre-accident examples available, penned with a "Best Wishes" notation on the opening page of his 1952 biography by author Dick Young. The page has some areas of toning that barely brush Campy's ink, as well as the signature of the book's former owner, but neither of these issues causes any genuine concern. The book itself remains in strong condition, with only light wear to its original dust jacket. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
