1949 Mickey Mantle & Others Multi Signed Independence Yankees Souvenir Book. Unless you happen to uncover a Mickey Mantle signed high school yearbook or something similar, if you are in the market for the earliest signature of "The Mick," this might be your lot. A "Souvenir Book of the Independence Yankees and K-O-M League," this 1949 publication dates from Mantle's very first stint in professional baseball, at the age of just seventeen.

Back in his late teens, Mantle lacked so much confidence that he begged his father to let him quit baseball and come home when he got in a slump. Yet, he hit .313 in 1949, .383 in 1950 with Joplin and .361 in 1951 at Kansas City. Hardly worth quitting over. Thankfully, Mantle found his confidence and went on to join the Yanks in 1951, going on to become the greatest player of his generation.

This book shows its wear with creasing, writing on the cover, staining and a few separated pages. Yet, with the treasure inside of a vintage 1949 "Mick Mantle" signature in 9/10 pencil, the condition of the book hardly matters. Another eleven signatures, including Harry Craft, also grace the interior. Perhaps the earliest Mantle signature from his professional career. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
