1947 Jimmie Foxx Signed Final Release as a Player from Professional Baseball. The 1940's were a tough decade for The Beast. Ted Williams had eclipsed him as the Red Sox kingpin and a decline in his vision resulted in decreased output both at the plate and in the field. Furthermore, the ageing slugger endured clashes with Boston manager Joe Cronin and a bitter divorce form his first wife. After his departure from the BoSox, Foxx closed out his career with the Cubs and Phillies.

In 1947, two years after his last Major League appearance, Double X served as a player/manager for the St. Petersburg Saints in the Florida International League. On offer here is a one-page typed release on onion skin paper which is signed by "James E. Foxx," as well as a team official and two witnesses. The document, which stands as Foxx's final release as a player from professional baseball, is matted and framed in a display (27x34.5") along with two typed and unsigned letters from Foxx to the team regarding his compensation and a photo (7x9.5" visible) of him as an Athletic. The Beast's autograph in blue steel-tip fountain pen is a bit light but still very legible. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from SGC Authentic.
