1945 Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Mel Ott & Carl Hubbell Multi-Signed "Esquire's All-American Boy's Baseball Game." Amateur baseball in the 1940's saw its greatest young stars pitted against one another at New York City's Polo Grounds field of battle for an event called the "All-American Boy's Baseball Game," sponsored by Esquire Magazine. While many fans would turn out in hopes of seeing the Big League stars of tomorrow, perhaps even more came to catch a glimpse of the stars of yesteryear, who would serve as honorary managers of the opposing "East" and "West" teams. In 1945 the dugouts were manned by the biggest baseball names of all, Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb."Autograph and clipping book" produced by Esquire as a keepsake for the players. This particular copy originally belonged to pitcher Bob Phelps. Contains over thirty pages of heavy stock glossy photos of the players, managers, coaches, batboys, scouts, journalists, and executives connected with the event. Signed by east manager Babe Ruth (8.5/10 green ink) next to his photo and east coach Carl Hubbell (8/10 blue ink) across his photo. Also signed by Branch Rickey, Jr. (9/10 blue ink) on one of the autograph pages. Furthermore, every player (with the exception of Phelps) signs, as do many other of the individuals connected with the event.
The pages exhibit some uniform undulation but the book is in otherwise overall EX condition. The steel-tip fountain pen autographs are beautiful and grade an overall 9/10 in strength. Full LOA from PSA/DNA (Ruth only). Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA (all).
