1942 Kansas City Monarchs Pitching Staff Signed Photograph. The heart of the most dominant Negro League club of its era, pictured is the spectacular pitching staff of the team that would cap a four-season Championship streak with a sweep of the Homestead Grays in the Negro League World Series. Bookending this remarkable image is the Hall of Fame duo of Hilton Smith and Satchel Paige, their black fountain pen signatures rating 7/10 and 3/10 respectively. The other four--Connie Johnson, Jim LeMarque, Booker McDaniels and Jim Matchet--are similar in strength to Paige, each legible but light, with some portions simply scratches into the photograph's emulsion. "Kansas City Monarchs Pitching Staff 1942" is penned by an unknown hand at the bottom. A fair helping of edge and corner wear must be noted, but the image area remains mercifully free of any distracting flaws, and one must forgive just about any deviation from perfection in light of the incredible rarity and desirability of this piece. 8x10". LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication. Guide Value or Estimate: $2,000 - $4,000.
