1939 Nap Lajoie Signed Baseball Centennial First Day Cover, PSA/DNA NM-MT 8. There were two 'total packages' at the turn of the 20th Century: Honus Wagner and Napoleon Lajoie. Nap, who preferred the French pronunciation of Lah-ZWAH, was a large man for his day (6-1 200) who ran like a deer and was one the greatest fielders to ever patrol the second sack. Where he truly excelled, though, was in the batter's box. A lifetime .338 batsman, he holds the modern-era single-season batting average (.426) and registered the game's first ever Triple Crown campaign. Lajoie was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1937 and on hand in Cooperstown, the day the first day cover on offer here was postmarked, for the Hall's opening and first induction ceremony. He signs, bold and beautiful, in 9/10 black steel-tip fountain pen. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.Full LOA from PSA/DNA, NM-MT 8.
