    Description

1939-40 Waddy Young & Ralph Kercheval Signed Autograph Book Page. The saying "The flame that burns twice as bright, burns half as long" applies well to College Football Hall of Famer and American war hero Waddy Young. As Oklahoma's first consensus football All-American in 1938, he led the Sooners to their first ever Bowl game in January 1939. As a professional with the Brooklyn Dodgers, he appeared in the NFL's first ever televised game in October of 1939. As Pat Tillman would do some sixty years later, Young voluntarily gave up the comforts of civilian life and an NFL career to join the Air Force after his second pro season and before the United States entered World War II. As one of the first men to captain and pilot B-29 Superfortress missions over Japan, Young and his "Waddy's Wagon" crew went missing in action over Tokyo on January 9, 1945 while assisting an American plane in distress.

Ralph Kervcheval played seven seasons in the NFL with the Brooklyn Dodgers and served with the U.S. Army's cavalry division in World War II. Both autographs appear in NM black ink on a 6x4.5" autograph album page. Young's autograph is extremely rare with very few known exemplars. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
