1936 U.S.A. Olympics Team Signed Photograph with Owens. A one-of-a-kind collectible with important athletic and political context. This ultra-rare piece consists of an original, vintage photograph of Johannapark in Leipzig, Germany, which was a training park for Olympic athletes during the 1936 Olympics. The photo is mounted on a tan board surrounded by a three-inch border. Along the border are signatures of ninety-seven members of the American Olympic team that participated in the infamous 1936 Hitler Olympics. Among the notables are: Jesse Owens (Winner of four Gold Medals), Ralph Metcalf (Winner of an individual Silver in 100 meter sprint), several members of the Gold Medal winning basketball team (first time Basketball played at Olympics Games), Martin Glickman (Denied opportunity to compete due to Jewish ancestry. Pulled last second from 4x100 relay because win by a Jew would be offensive to Hitler. Jesse Owens replaced Glickman, and U.S.A. won Gold), Cornelius Johnson (High Jump Gold Medal. Hitler reportedly left stands when time to award medal to Johnson, who was black) and Archie Williams (400 Meter Run Gold Medal.). Autographs average an impressive 8/10 to 9/10, with only a couple small water stains that affect two signatures (none mentioned above). The back of the piece has a large inscription to an athlete named "Howell King," who is believed to have been disqualified from the Games shortly before they began. An incredible piece that documents the most important Olympics of the modern era like none other that we've seen. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.Auction Info
