1918 Eddie Plank "Notice of Player's Release" Ending His Career. A pinstriped Plank?! It almost happened, but the forty-two year old southpaw instead decided to hang up his spikes and close the stat sheet at 326 career victories. This standard document filled out and signed by the St. Louis Browns business manager Robert Quinn was the final official paperwork filed for one of the finest pitching careers in baseball history, though many the Yankee fan lamented Plank's decision to forgo assignment to "the New York Club of American League." Gettysburg Eddie was still brilliant in his old age, posting a 1.79 ERA in 131 innings of 1917 work. Document exhibits mild handling wear but nothing of any concern.
