    Description

1917 Tris Speaker Signed Photograph by Van Oeyen. Two legends of the Cleveland baseball diamond join forces to create a spectacular Dead Ball era keepsake. The man in front of the lens is Hall of Fame icon Tris Speaker, whose striped cap and lack of numeral on the left sleeve allow us to pinpoint the image to the 1917 season. Behind the lens is master photographer Louis Van Oeyen, whose Cleveland studio was responsible for the most memorable baseball images of the age. His raised stamp is imprinted between Speaker's legs, and appears in ink on verso as well. While the photo would have significant value in its unsigned state, the ante is upped with the addition of a fine 9/10 black fountain pen inscription reading, "To Jimmie Fowler, With all good wishes, Tris Speaker." A mild amount of creasing at the corners does little to distract, and when appropriately framed the photo will present no visual distractions. 8x10". LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication. Guide Value or Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
