    Description

1914-15 Max Carey & Barney Dreyfuss Signed National League Player's Contract. The game's premier base thief agrees to terms that would earn him $5,025 annually for the 1914 and 1915 Pittsburgh Pirates seasons. This rather hefty sum proved a wise investment nonetheless, as Carey swiped thirty-eight and thirty-six bases respectively during these campaigns, the latter a National League-topping tally. The contract is signed at the close by a pair of future Hall of Famers, Carey himself and Pirates team owner Barney Dreyfuss, one of the more challenging autographs of the twentieth century game. Each signature survives with 9/10 black fountain pen boldness. The contract itself presents magnificently, with original storage folds but nothing more than a slight corner bend otherwise. A top-tier example of a Dead Ball Era contract with enormous appeal to the advanced Hall of Fame autograph collector. Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
