    Description

1950 Branch Rickey Brooklyn Dodgers Letter Lot of 2 - Rickey's Final Year in Brooklyn. The man best remembered for his courage in signing the first African-American to play Major League Baseball, Branch Rickey was also known for far more in his illustrious and long baseball career. Even before signing Jackie Robinson, the Hall of Fame executive was the first to mandate the use of batting helmets in 1941. He also would sign the first Afro-Hispanic player in Roberto Clemente, and helped encourage the expansion of Major League Baseball. Prior to all of this, he even gave playing the sport a try, for the New York Highlanders and St. Louis Browns, as well as suiting up for a professional football team.

    Offered are the following:

February 10, 1950 letter from R. H. Anderson of the Oil City Athletic Club. Written with interest in purchasing players from the Dodgers' farm system.

May 5, 1950 letter from Edward S. Doherty of the Louisville Baseball Club with multiple Pee Wee Reese references.

Light wear exhibited throughout both with normal letter folds.
