1950-72 Buzzie Bavasi Letter Archive (125) - Excellent Baseball Executive Content. Serving from 1951 to 1968 in the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodger front office Emil Joseph "Buzzie" Bavasi helped build eight pennant-winning squads while securing four championship rings. Bavasi played a key role in the development of some of baseball's young black stars - Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe - by accepting them into the Dodger farm team he was running in New Hampshire. Soon he would be hired as the big club's general manager and soon after hired Walter Alston, who would go on to be the ninth winningest manager in Major League history. Odds are if you were to blindly point to any name on the list of all-time Dodger greats, Buzzie (or one of his protégés) had a hand in signing and developing that player.

This lot of one hundred and twenty-five letters written to the Dodgers' GM gives a rarely seen look into the world of baseball executives in the 1950s and 1960s. Highlights include a notes from Duke Snider and Chuck Dressen, letters from Wilson sporting goods, Topps (from Sy Berger), The Sporting News, Fleer, trade discussions with the Senators, early references to the amateur draft (1961), and much more. Light wear with folding exhibited throughout most letters.

Please be advised that the archive is offered "as is" and has not been reviewed by PSA given the relative obscurity of the majority of the letter-writers. Please contact with any questions regarding this offering.
