1948 Bill Veeck Signed Typed Letter. Bill Veeck grew up in the world of baseball business -- his father was the president of the Chicago Cubs. By the time that the younger Veeck got his shot at running a big league club in 1946, he had already developed a flair for the dramatic and used that to generate revenue for his business. During a very tumultuous time in the US, Veeck signed the first African-American to play in the American League when he inked future Hall of Famer Larry Doby. Veeck went on to bring several other innovations to the game, eventually landing him in the Hall of Fame. From 1948 we present this typed letter, on Cleveland Indians letterhead, signed by Veeck himself in black ink. LOA from PSA/DNA.
