1931 Honus Wagner Handwritten Signed Letter to Max Carey. One Hall of Fame legend writes to another, the cryptic content indicating a familiarity born of a long, close friendship. We believe the message is baseball-related, though we cannot be certain, as the Old Dutchman writes, in part, "I have been angling but the old scout is a stubborn bird and he is not ready yet...I am ready to shoot and when things start I will wire you at once. I hope it is soon we sure could not do any worse than present, for 8 years he should have taken lessons in trading mules." Wagner signs in an unfamiliar, "With best wishes, Jay," the nickname used by his closest buddies. The ink on the single unlined blue page (8.5x11") averages 8/10 to 9/10. Original mailing folds but no other issues. Included is original mailing envelope, addressed to Carey in Wagner's distinctive hand, but unsigned. Carey (or a family member) has written on the envelope "Honus, Keep." Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
