1906 Cap Anson Handwritten Letter. He has been aptly called "baseball's first superstar," compiling over 3,000 hits in twenty-seven seasons of baseball and inspiring fellow Chicago resident Charles Comiskey to exclaim, "He was the greatest batter that ever walked up to hit at a baseball thrown by a pitcher." The 1939 posthumous Hall of Fame inductee passed from this life in 1922, making examples of his autograph a tough find for collectors. Here we present a fine handwritten letter, penned on Anson's Chicago City Clerk stationery. On both sides of the page he writes a long message to his son, noting at point, "I would rather have my money invested in an independent base ball club and grounds than in a brick business in a little town. Chicago looks better to me." He signs off, "Love, hugs and kisses for all, Your loving father Al Anson." A brief postscript follows, which he initials "Al A," effectively adding a second signature to this remarkable piece. Ink quality remains a marvelous 10/10 in boldness, while the letter shows expected wear along the original mailing folds but is otherwise very strong. LOA from PSA/DNA.Auction Info
