1968 Sonny Liston Cut Signature. Few boxing experts gave young Cassius Clay much of a chance against the devastating punching power of this former Mafia enforcer, who had assumed the Heavyweight Championship from Floyd Patterson in September of 1962 with a brutal first round knockout. Questions still remain as to whether the second meeting of Ali and Liston was on the level, but you can bet that this extremely tough autograph is. The barely literate Liston was not an active signer but per the notes on the reverse of the this 3x5" mount (2.5x3.5" cut) it would appear as if he made a public appearance in Las Vegas alongside his wife and lawyer. Light wear exhibited with the signature displaying nicely. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
