Early 1970's Satchel Paige Handwritten Page & Signed Photograph. The greatest pitcher in Negro League history provides a pair of intriguing keepsakes for the serious collector. We begin with the first page of a letter penned on Atlanta Braves letterhead (subsequent page(s) missing) regarding various financial matters. Though the closing signature is missing, Paige does reference himself in the text, writing (with no grammatical or spelling corrections), "...Just answer them and tell them that Satchel have bin getting a fee for speaking because he dont make a large sarry..." The page has some toning and minor creasing at the edges, but nothing that causes any concern. All writing is 10/10. Second is an 8x10" photo of Paige pitching in the Bronx as a member of the New York Black Yankees. Paige inscribes the photo in 10/10 blue ink, "Best Wishes From Satchel Paige to Holt." Some spotting in the wide borders remains clear of the image area, which could be easily matted to a Mint appearance. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication. Guide Value or Estimate: $1,500 - $2,500.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
