    Description

Early 1950's Bill McGowan Signed Letters Archive. One of a kind archive derives from a descendant of a young man enrolled in the Hall of Famer's acclaimed umpiring school, providing the hobby with the greatest single influx of the sturdy arbiter's signature yet seen within the collecting hobby. Ten letters are typed, with all signed "Bill McGowan" except for two that are signed simply "Bill." The eleventh letter is a fantastic two-page handwritten missive featuring McGowan's full name autograph at the close. A twelfth autograph, also full, comes at the close of a typed "Fact Sheet" regarding McGowan's Daytona Beach, Florida school. The thirteenth and final signature authenticates the umpiring student's 1952 class identification card. Closing out the archive are a few photos of McGowan and his umpiring students, and newspaper clippings of McGowan's 1954 obituary. Letters and other signed pieces show mailing folds or other mild wear, but nothing that causes concern. The signatures rate 9/10 or better uniformly. An exciting new-to-the-hobby find with magnificent "break down" value for the enterprising hobbyist. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
