    Description

Inscribed to the architect of The Christy Mathewson cottage in Saranac Lake

Early 1920's Christy Mathewson Signed Photograph, PSA/DNA Mint 9. Wonderful photographic portrait of the number three man on Major League Baseball's career pitching victory hierarchy finds Big Six on the streets of Saranac Lake, a beautiful upstate New York village that had become a world-renowned center for the treatment of tuberculosis. It was this terrible ailment that brought the New York Giants ace together with the man to whom this photograph is inscribed, each drawn to the idyllic village in the hopes of a cure.

Their names remain famous in Saranac Lake to this day--Mathewson for obvious reasons, and Hull as the architect of The Christy Mathewson Cottage at 21 Old Military Road, one of the most prominent homes in the Highland Park section of the town. Hull, in fact, owned the structure in which Mathewson spent his final months, and was a prominent citizen in the community until his own passing in 1958.

One suspects that it is Mathewson's eponymous homestead in the background of this 7x9.5" image, which is boldly inscribed in 9+/10 black fountain pen ink to its creator: "Best regards to Harry Hull, Christy Mathewson." The perfectly rendered silver gelatin print exhibits insignificant edge wear and similarly innocuous evidence of scrapbook removal on reverse, but no tearing, staining or creasing to distract. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, Mint 9. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
