    Description

Circa 1955 Honus Wagner Single Signed Baseball. "You can have your Cobbs, your Lajoies, your Chases, your Bakers," once said Hall of Fame manager John McGraw, "but I'll take Wagner as my pick of the greatest." Perhaps best remembered as the face on the most valuable baseball card in the world, the legendary Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop remains a particularly tough autograph despite his many years in uniform, first as a player and later as a coach for the team he loved. Most of the few Wagner singles to surface are side panel applications, so this sweet spot model, rating a solid 8/10 is particularly special. A small stain barely skims last letter of autograph to little distraction. A letter of provenance from the consignor explains it was given to him by a gentleman who cut Wagner's grass at his Carnegie, PA home in the mid-1950's. Pony League model ball. Letter of provenance from consignor. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
