    Description

Circa 1940's Grover Cleveland Alexander Signed Cut. "Old Pete" had his share of problems off the mound -- notably his affinity for alcohol, a demon that would eventually take his life in 1950. Yet when he was on the mound, he unleashed a full arsenal that sent batters back to the dugout in frustration. While the common belief is that he would often pitch games while inebriated, Ty Cobb had a different theory:
"Grover Cleveland Alexander wasn't drunk out there on the mound, the way people thought. He was an epileptic. Old Pete would fall down with a seizure between innings, then go back and pitch another shutout."

Regardless, Alexander ranks up there with the greatest pitchers in history, leading the league in too many categories to keep count. The fact that he took home four Pitching Triple Crowns between 1915 and 1920 should cement his status as one of the top hurlers in history.

The offered autograph is signed "Grover C Alexander" on a 1.5x5" cut, authenticated by James Spence Authentication and encapsulated by BVG below a 1980 Perez-Steele postcard. The overall slab measures 6x9." The signature has very slight bleeding of the "x" but remains a nice 8/10 example. Encapsulated "Authentic" by JSA/BGS.
