Circa 1930 Ned Hanlon Signed Album Page, PSA/DNA Mint 9. Born Edward Hugh Hanlon in 1857, the shrewd leader of the Victorian-era Baltimore Orioles is considered by many the most influential skipper in baseball history, with three of his players (John McGraw, Wilbert Robinson and Hughie Jennings) earning Cooperstown managerial bronze before their mentor's own posthumous 1996 induction. Fellow Hall of Fame manager Connie Mack, the sport's most experienced manager, once reported, "I always rated Ned Hanlon as the greatest leader baseball ever had. I don't believe any man lived who knew as much baseball as he did." Despite the accolades and the five pennants earned under his direction, Hanlon lived and died in relative obscurity when compared to his contemporary Hall of Famers, leaving the modern hobby woefully under-supplied with autograph exemplars.

Presented is unquestionably the finest of that endangered breed, Hanlon's faultlessly bold black fountain pen autograph underscored by his "Baltimore, MD." notation on a pale blue album page measuring 4.5x5.5" in size. It derives from the autograph book of 1930's baseball autograph collector Dr. John O'Meara, who tracked down the underappreciated baseball legend shortly before his passing. The page is encapsulated in a BGS/JSA holder for protection and unquestioned authenticity. Full Grading LOA from PSA/DNA, Mint 9. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
