    Description

Circa 1930 Bobby Jones Signed Photograph. After Francis Ouimet's dramatic win in the 1913 US Open, America was ready for an American golf hero and in Bobby Jones, they found one. Winner of an astonishing thirteen majors in eight years (1923-1930), Jones retired at age twenty-eight after completing the unheard of achievement of winning all four majors in one year. This image and autograph finds the Golden Age golf god at the height of his powers, the signature applied boldly and long before the debilitating disease that ultimately claimed his life affected his handwriting. He directs his inscription to a young female fan, writing, "For Audrey Baxter, With best wishes, Robt. T. Jones." The 8x10" photo is nearly flawless, with any slight signs of handling residing entirely within the white borders and well clear of the image itself. Also here is the original mailing envelope from Jones to Ms. Baxter, though executed in an unknown hand. Certainly one of the finest examples we've seen of golf's most essential autograph.
